Calamari Rings, Breaded with my LEGIT Onion Ring Breading
If you're like 85% of the people on planet Earth, you love breaded and deep fried Calamari. It's a delicious appetizer on pretty much EVERY restaurant menu in the western hemisphere. However, "deep fried" is a pretty big problem, not to mention that it's typically dredged in 5 gallons of flour and breading on top of it. When I looked up weight watcher recipes for crispy baked calamari, all those recipes had one thing in common... disappointing, emo-level sadness. Most all that WERE low in points were pretty much along the lines of "spray the rings with cooking spray, drop 1/1000th of a teaspoon of flour on the calamari... air fry" See? It makes you sad just thinking about it. Well, a few weeks ago, I came up with a pretty danged awesome low point breading for Onion Rings. That instantly got the wheels turning, and I wondered if it'd work for Calamari. Well, this answers that question.
The above linked, free file, is NOT found in the pages of my Low Point Cooking Guide, that you can download for free here on my website. This recipe is for the Appetizers section of my upcoming second cookbook (and free download) that I'm working on. It will be filled to the brim with sauces, salad dressings, dips and gourmet, low point & calorie appetizers. This is appetizer #10 of AT LEAST 20.
